Don't know if you've ever come across CORE77. They are a digital design magazine where you can keep abreast of innovations in design.
The latest one which caught my eye was the 1 hour business card challenge which produced some very interesting ideas. In schools these short exercises where you have no time to procrastinate can really push creativity.
